O superintendente executivo da Funai, Gerson da Silva Alves, informou que o deputado Bento Porto (PDS-MT) "tentou incompatibilizar o Presidente Figueiredo com o presidente da Funai, Nelson Marabuto, na véspera da assinatura do decreto determinando a demarcação da Reserva Apinajé. Porto responsabilizou Marabuto pelo conflito entre índios e posseiros, no Norte de Goiás".
