Em janeiro de 1980 a Funai publicou edital de concorrência entre firmas especializadas, firmando contrato para a demarcação de 87.300 hectares de terras indígenas. A maior concentração de indígenas dessas áreas está em Manoá-Pium, onde vivem índios Wapixana e Makuxi. Está prevista também a demarcação das áreas dos Kaxinawá, no Acre, Mamoadate, Mãe Maria e Krikati.
